The Russian Transport University trains engineers, builders, economists and managers for the railway industry, metro, road construction and urban transport. 2000 ARM RDW Computers were supplied. Each workstation includes: an RDW Nordvik-04 system unit, a monitor, an RDW01-M wired mouse, and an RDW01-KB wired keyboard. The Khibiny RDW server became the central node of the computing infrastructure.

Delivery period: 2024-2025.

Equipment status: all equipment is included in the Unified Register of Russian Radioelectronic Products of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The Nordvik-04 system units are assembled on an RDW B760 motherboard with DDR5 support. The monitors have TR TC certificates and a warranty of up to 5 years. Peripherals (mouse and keyboard) are supplied as a set.

Objective: equipping engineering classrooms and laboratories with modern Russian technology

The Russian Transport University annually admits more than 15,000 students. The learning process includes:

  • work with specialized engineering software (CAD, structural calculation systems, traffic flow modeling);
  • performing laboratory work with measuring equipment and sensors;
  • access to the electronic information and educational environment (EIOS) of the university;
  • conducting exams and tests in computer form.

Before the modernization, the computer hardware fleet consisted of devices from different years of production, some of which did not support modern versions of domestic and specialized software. The Russian transport university needed uniform, productive and register-based equipment that could be serviced centrally.

Solution: 2000 ARM based on RDW Nordvik-04 and the Khibiny RDW server

The competition committee of the Russian Transport University selected RDW Computers equipment according to the following criteria:

  • availability of registry records of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for all items of the system unit, monitors, peripherals;
  • compatible with Astra Linux, RED OS and Alt operating systems (manufacturer's certificates);
  • High performance Nordvik-04 (14th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 32 GB DDR5, SSD M.2 NVMe 512 GB) for working with engineering software;
  • single form factor and color scheme of monitors (three models to choose from depending on the audience: 23.8", 27", 31.5");
    • wired peripherals RDW01-M and RDW01-KB with 10 million taps and wear protection during intensive classroom use.

Khibiny's RDW server (1U form factor, NVMe U.2/U.3 support, 2.5GbE Ethernet) is deployed in the university's computing center for:

  • centralized storage of network folders and student profiles;
  • operation of the distance learning and video conferencing system;
  • backup data for training units.

Result: training of engineering personnel using modern Russian equipment

2000 RDW Computers workstations have been put into operation in 12 academic buildings of the Russian transport university. The use of a single Nordvik-04 platform has simplified administration: the operating system image is deployed to all PCs centrally via the Khibiny server. Replacing outdated monitors with 2401K, 2707K, and 3207K models has reduced visual fatigue among students and teachers through Flicker-Free and Low Blue Light technologies.

The RDW01-KB wired keyboards and RDW01-M mice showed a low failure rate in intensive use (up to 8 hours of operation per day, 6 days per week). The Russian Transport University has included RDW Computers equipment in its plans for further equipping new laboratories.
