An expert’s perspective on IT infrastructure for the fuel and energy sector

The continuity of technological processes at enterprises in Russia’s fuel and energy complex (FEC) was the main topic of the annual specialized conference “Infrastructure 2030,” which took place on September 4 in Novy Urengoy. The event was organized by the Russian IT company “InfoSystems Jet.”

More than 50 customer companies took part in the conference. The focus of the discussions was the approach companies take when choosing an IT solution. In today’s reality, customers are becoming increasingly demanding not only in terms of the cost of IT infrastructure but also in terms of the total cost of ownership. The argument for import substitution alone is no longer sufficient: new equipment and software must be not just domestic, but reliable, modern, and economically justified. Therefore, when selecting infrastructure solutions, fuel and energy sector enterprises take into account their compatibility with the existing IT landscape, the costs of operation and maintenance, resilience to failures, and the speed of recovery after incidents. Price remains an important factor, but now the customer evaluates what exactly they are getting for that money.

RDW Computers Report

RDW Computers took an active part in the conference’s business program. During the event, a representative of RDW Computers delivered a report titled “Trends in the Development of IT Infrastructure Solutions,” in which they presented the brand’s own product ecosystem that meets the key industry requirements for IT infrastructure in the fuel and energy sector: reliability, scalability, and technological advancement.

New topic – artificial intelligence

Also, a fundamentally new topic has appeared in this year’s conference program – artificial intelligence. And if earlier the conference agenda was built around IT infrastructure in the vein of “IT for IT” and information security, now applied AI with specific scenarios, project experience, and demonstrations has been added to these areas. The classic infrastructure agenda is not going anywhere, but the boundaries of professional discussions are becoming broader.

Site selection

“Novy Urengoy was chosen by us for a reason. Novy Urengoy is the unofficial gas capital of Russia, boasting a unique world record: over 7 trillion cubic meters of natural gas have been extracted from the depths of the giant Urengoy field. This is where major enterprises in the industry are concentrated, along with a large‑scale corporate IT infrastructure and the specialists who are responsible for its operation, development, and continuity on a daily basis. I’m sure the dialogues among the conference participants were as substantive as possible,” noted Mikhail Anoshin, Director of Business Development at Infosystems Jet.

Import substitution in infrastructure

A separate focus area of the conference is “Infrastructure based on domestic solutions,” which includes the selection, testing, implementation, and migration to Russian server complexes, storage systems, virtualization platforms, VDI, DBMS, email, and other corporate services.

The program featured presentations on migrating domain infrastructure to domestic software, building infrastructure on zVirt, and ecosystems of Russian solutions for the oil and gas industry.
