The result of the industry event — MERLION IT Summit 2021 for RDW

«The development of the country depends on us," Alexey Abramov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MERLION, said in the opening speech of the summit. — We have tasks, let's solve them." There are really a lot of tasks. The first thing that companies have faced this year is the shortage of computer components, which continues to grow, and this is not a domestic problem..

We are already used to the fact that video cards that cost 50 thousand rubles yesterday are already worth 200 thousand today, and even for this money they cannot be bought. Now a shortage of semiconductors has been added to them, and hard drives have scattered like hot cakes in the second quarter of 2021. Representatives of the vendors who spoke explained why it happened and what to expect. According to Alexey Ivanov, head of the Intel representative office in Russia, the pandemic has greatly changed the structure of demand and returned interest in personal computers. With the advent of remote work, it turned out that you will not be alive with one phone. The production cycle is more than a year. Unsurprisingly, the semiconductor industry is facing a shortage. «It affected everyone," Alexey Ivanov emphasized.

Uncertainty has arisen in our life. As the head of the Intel representative office said, the number one trend now is this: there is nowhere to wait for accurate forecasts. Among the other trends, all the familiar faces:artificial intelligence, internet of things and clouds.

After the key reports, the summit participants continued to work in parallel mode. At five sessions, we delved into the topics that were covered in the first key reports. At the same time, panel discussions were held, where Prefab data centers were discussed as a way to develop Edge Computing in Russia, the impact of the pandemic on the domestic market of system integration, as well as import substitution. During eight workshops, it was possible to get closer acquainted with the solutions from the participating companies. In general, the summit program brought together 58 business events of various formats.

One of the most lively and controversial topics was the discussion of import substitution, a separate session and part of the panel program were even devoted to this. An attempt to get off the needle of foreign developments is not at all a local Russian specificity, as we used to think. The speakers suggested considering the ongoing processes not from the point of view of threats, although there are plenty of the latter. Due to the pandemic, production and logistics chains broke, the political and economic confrontation of the world's largest powers continued and intensified, while inside Russia, as we saw above, companies suffer due to uncertainty in the requirements of legislation. The consequence of all this is a shortage of components, unpredictable price increases and unclear delivery times.

«Prices for the necessary imported components, from which we largely build our products, have doubled over the past year, I tell you as a person who has been engaged in import substitution tasks for a long time, — comments on the commercial director of RDW Computers Alexey Karasev. Another surprise is Resolution No. 1432 of August 28, 2021. Even for us, although we are engaged from dusk to dawn in the tasks of producing Russian equipment, it became sudden. But this news, first of all, shows us that the state believes in us as producers. What we do is important and necessary.
