The mood for import substitution

We return to the landmark event of last week: the debut of the RDW Computers brand at the site of the largest IT event in Russia.

Changes in the global IT market affected every participant of the summit. Forced disunity forced society to look for new communication formats. Humanity was isolated, but it managed to do a lot remotely. So the pandemic unexpectedly acquired the status of a kind of driving force of progress. This force has spurred an unprecedented demand not only for computers. Computer hardware manufacturers were caught off guard. The level of demand prediction, which was located around 3 percent, suddenly jumps to 50! In the production cycle of client devices – stupor. After all, the world immediately needed everything: computer chips and semiconductors, laptops and computers, servers and data storage systems. And, as a result, an increase in prices for motherboards, the element base and an increase in delivery times.

What about Russia? She hadn't stood aside before. And he's not going to do it now! After all, the mood is hovering over the country's economy. The mood for import substitution. So the organizers of the MERLION IT Summit-2021 decided to bring all interested parties together to build up the muscles of digitalization in the muscular framework of the Russian economy.

In the media field, there is constant talk about the development of our national projects based on the electronic industry. Experts insist on a comfortable mechanism of regulation in the electronic products market. Producers crave tax and tariff benefits, languish without customs preferences. And everyone dreams that suddenly such a fabulous advantage will be born in the bowels of the government, which will take and endow Russian companies in the domestic market. And so it happened! The Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1432 of August 28, 2021 appeared exactly on the eve of the MERLION IT Summit-2021. And it managed to sow confusion in the ranks of IT market participants. Of course! The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to ban public procurement of imported integrated circuits, smart cards, laptops, tablets, computers, servers and lighting products. In relation to the rest of the electronics and medical equipment, state customers were obliged to apply the rule of the "second superfluous". That is, to reject all applications for participation in the purchase, in which imported products are offered, if at least one application has been submitted with an offer to supply Russian electronics. This is the reality. And here are the impressions of RDW Computers from the last IT summit.

RDW Computers Commercial Director Alexey KARASEV:

- Back in August, we existed in a market filled with rumors about the freezing of the import substitution mechanism for two years. And it didn't add confidence. That's why it was important for us to enter the market as ready as possible. And from the point of view of confirming the Russianness of the equipment we produce. And the availability of finished products in stock. And a complex of marketing activities. And the relevance of presentation materials. This was the only way we could tell the whole market that we are! Everything is done correctly! Now we are ready for real interaction. What's next? We will conclude partnership agreements with Russian vendors. Continue testing our motherboard and various configurations of our equipment for performance and compatibility with Russian software products. And wait for official conclusions from the leading manufacturers of operating systems in Russia.
